Wellness, of course, is much more than the absence of disease. Wellness is energy, vitality, longevity. It’s health of body and peace of mind and joy in life. It’s balance.
And with all of our uniqueness, “one size fits all” approaches don’t always work. But principles of wellness do work. They apply to everyone. Within the principles, there are tools of wellness that can be applied according to what will serve you best. This way, everyone can find wellness.
Here are some of the guiding principles of wellness:
Our Bodies Are Amazing.
It is always best when we work with our body, not against it. This involves the food we eat, the movement we choose, how we treat illness, and so many other applications of wellness.
Intuition is Something to Nurture
Nurture intuition so you can trust it. It’s one of the best self-evaluation tools we have.
We are More Than What We Eat
…and more than our hormone health, and most certainly more than our dress size. The phrase “you are what you eat” doesn’t show the whole picture. Yes, what you eat affects you. And we should feed ourselves in a way that serves us best. But the reason to feed yourself right goes back directly to who you are, regardless of what you eat. You are YOU – unique and of immeasurable worth – regardless of what you put in your mouth, and this is the reason to make good health choices.
The Choices We Make Affect Our Lives
…including how we feel, our relationships, what we’re able to do. Choosing the right tools of health spiral into other areas of life and we can find wholeness and wellness.
Personal Well-Being is a Gift to Self and Others
…and ultimately, to the world. When we enjoy personal wellness, we can give in more complete ways. Our capacity increases. Our ability to love increases. It’s really quite remarkable what a ripple effect can happen when we start from a place of wellness.
